The Hungarian MEP reminded the audience that 50 million people live with disabilities in the territory of the EU. “I consider them to be the largest minority” – he declared in his one-minute speech. He stressed: in crises, it is always the persons with disabilities who first loose their job, whose salary and standard of living decrease, moreover, the financial assistance for the disability organisations is always on the first place to be cut. “The big lesson of the crises is that it is worth investing in people – even at the expense of other investments” – Mr Kosa believes.
He warned: decision makers on the field of politics and economy are responsible to pay enough attention to the people with disabilities, since the assurance of equal opportunities is a social interest and at the same time it is one of the greatest values of Europe.
